Don Elkington challenges you to raise the ladder in support of upgrading GVFD medical training!
Don Elkington, with the support of the GVFD, is going to raise $40,000 to upgrade the GVFD’s medical program. Currently GVFD members are trained to First Responder Level 3 (FR), a great but limited program. With these funds the GVFD will be able to upgrade most members to Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) status, which will allow the members to do additional medical procedures that will save lives.

Raised to date: $46,130

What is an Emergency Medical Responder?
If an EMA holds a license in the category of EMR, the licensing board may endorse the license to permit the EMA to provide one or more of the following services:
(a) maintenance of intravenous lines without medications or blood products while transporting persons between health facilities;
(b) use and interpretation of a pulse oximeter;
(c) administration of the following oral, sublingual or inhaled medications:
(i) anti-anginal;
(ii) anti-hypoglycemic agent;
(iii) analgesia;
(iv) platelet inhibitors;
(d) use and interpretation of a glucometer;
(e) chest auscultation;
(f) insertion and maintenance of nasopharyngeal airway.
This program will increase the level of care that the GVFD can offer the community and it will cost less then our current program. Through in-house training, as well as offering courses to other local fire departments, we can then maintain this high level of service for our community.
