Commitment

We need firefighters who live on Gabriola Island and are committed to staying here for a period of years. It takes several years for a new volunteer to become a fully qualified firefighter, so we’re looking for people who are interested in long-term involvement.

We need firefighters who will come to practice each Tuesday night.

From time to time we ask firefighters to attend off-island training sessions. These are often two-day weekend sessions. We pay for tuition, and hotel and travel expenses if overnight stays are required.

Sometimes we offer special sessions for firefighters on Gabriola – a wildfire response course, an advanced first aid course, or a course in running the pumps on our fire trucks.

It’s a significant committment, and the rewards are significant, too. Are you up for it?
