If you’re interested in being a volunteer firefighter on Gabriola Island, start by calling our Fire Chief, at 250-247-9677. Arrange a time to stop by the fire hall and meet him.
The Chief will show you around the hall, explain what’s involved, and answer your questions. He’ll show you the textbook we use for our studies, and will tell you about our training program. He’ll invite you to come to watch one of our training sessions and meet the crew so you can get an idea of what’s involved and who we are.
If you decide you want to join us, there’ll be an application form to fill out. You’ll need to get a police record check, and we will check your driving history. Once all that’s done, you can become a probationary firefighter and start training with us.
We look forward to welcoming you to our department!
A note about vacancies: we are particularly looking for firefighters who live on the South End of Gabriola Island.
